It’s easy to settle into a makeup routine, ending up in a makeup rut.  And when you’re over 40, it gets even easier to become set in your ways.

Until one day you look in the mirror and say…

I need a makeover.

I Need A Makeover

Now, I’m not going to lie.  I have had some bad makeovers, when I ended up with colors or products that didn’t suit me at all.  But good or bad, here’s why over-40 makeovers are a fantastic thing to do for yourself…

    • It is Me Time  — A chunk of time you are forced to focus on taking a break and doing something nice for yourself.
    • You will try new colors.  Like em or not, you will try them.  And maybe find a color you never knew was flattering on you.
    • You will try new products, maybe even products you never knew existed!  There might be a beauty product out there that solves your most stubborn beauty problem.  Why not find out?

At my makeover, the makeup artist picked products she thought would work well for me, then highlighted and contoured away – something I rarely try.  After all was said and done, there were a few NEW items I couldn’t leave the store without.

I Need A Makeover

Born This Way Oil-Free Foundation from Too Faced Cosmetics

It’s oil-free, but the coconut water and hyaluronic acid (an all time favorite ingredient of mine) keep your skin moisturized, never giving that “dried down” look.  This foundation gets my over-40 thumbs up

  • Blurs imperfections
  • Great coverage
  • Not shiny, not too matte –  very natural looking

Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel

I have unruly brows, this keeps them in check.  It also gives a more filled in, polished look.

Never ever underestimate the power of your brows to take years off your look!

  • Not clumpy or flaky
  • Not obvious or harsh looking
  • Camouflage that stray gray

Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator from Laura Gellar

I got the shade “peachy glow” and I can’t stop using it. It’s what I’m having the most fun with!
“Applies like a sheer powder but feels like a cream”- Laura Gellar said it best

  • Use as a highlighter, like on cheekbones & nose
  • I sweep over cheeks when I want more glow
  • Versatile, use it where you want to add light

Lip Injection Gloss from Too Faced

I think matte lips can be aging, so I shine-up any stain or lipstick with a light pink or sheer gloss.  And if it can plump, too, ALL THE BETTER.  Lips thin with age and a plump pout is a sign of youth.

  • Instantly gives a fuller look
  • Yes, there’s a tingle, but it’s short-lived on my lips
  • Vitamin E & Avocado (two of my favorites) soften lips
